Lycia
Lycia is a local power in the region of Cilicia that has recently become a
subject of the general Antigonus I 'Monophthalmus' Antigonid. The nation has the potential to expand north into the mountainous Milyas region and perhaps even become a regional power. But first, can it shake off its overlords and assert independence?
Historically, Lycia would not become an independent entity and eventually came under Seleucid control by 190 BCE, when the Seleucids' defeat in the Battle of Magnesia resulted in Lycia being awarded to
Rhodes in the Peace of Apamea in 188 BCE. It was then granted autonomy as a protectorate of
Rome in 168 BCE and remained so until becoming a Roman province in 43 CE under Claudius.
Background[edit | edit source]
Lycia fought for the Persians in the Persian Wars, but on the defeat of the
Achaemenid Empire by the Greeks, it became intermittently a free agent. After a brief membership in the
Athenian Empire, it seceded and became independent, then was under the
Persians again, revolted again, was conquered by Mausolus of
Caria, returned to the
Persians, and finally fell under
Macedonian hegemony under Alexander 'the Great' Argead. Due to the influx of Greek speakers and the sparsity of the remaining Lycian speakers, Lycia was rapidly Hellenized under its Macedonian hegemons who exchanged the territory in succession, first to
Thrace, then
Egypt and finally the
Seleukid Empire.
Missions[edit | edit source]
Like all other countries, Lycia has access to the generic missions.
Decisions[edit | edit source]
As an Anatolian culture group country, Lycia has access to the decision to form Persia if it integrates Persian culture.
Form Persia
The days of Cyrus and Darius are long gone, but the Persian people remember the great empires built by their own. It is time to throw off the shackles of our foreign oppressors, and unite our people once again!

Decision[edit | edit source]
If it is destroyed, Lycia can be reformed by any nation that has Lycian primary culture. This primarily refers to Telmessos, which can be released through the
Egyptian mission tree The Eastern Border.
Form Lycia
Our people have too long been divided and undermined by foreign invaders, now it is time for the Lycian cities to unite their wills in earnest and assert their might once more.
