With the Punic Wars Content pack, Flag of Rome Rome has a unique set of 9 mission trees primarily focusing on its conquests during the time period, including the unification of Italy, the struggle with Flag of Carthage Carthage over Africa and the Western Mediterranean, conquering the tribes of Gaul and Hispania, and incursions into the east to gain control of the Hellenistic states of Greece and Asia.

Roman Italia[edit | edit source]

Mission rome 1.png

Since the founding of Roma by Romulus hundreds of years ago, our proud city has skirmished with our Italic neighbors, vying for control of the coasts and cities of Latium and Campania. Our recent victories over the Etruscans and Samnites have proved our superiority, and it is clear that it is Rome who is destined to unite the Italic peoples and lead them to glory.

The Roman Italia mission tree focuses on the unification of Italy under Roman rule, with tasks to conquer each of the other Italic regions and tribes and set up Roman colonies in the region. The end of the tree allows choosing between possible specializations for the colonies, as well as choosing whether to grant full rights and citizenship to deal with the now-subjugated Italic peoples, or enforcing a Roman hegemony. Various optional diplomatic tasks include organizing a Pan-Italic Congress in an attempt to seek support for the unification of Italy, issuing offers and demands to peacefully make subjects of the Greek city-states of Magna Graecia, as well as betraying the sworn Roman allies and attempting to forcefully annex them into the realm.

The main task required to progress down the rest of the tree will give various claims on other Italian states as well as various military modifiers, but through optional tasks Flag of Rome Rome can also seek to emulate the Greek leagues of old and attempt a more diplomatic approach towards unifying Italy - or forsake its alliances altogether and destroy its sworn feudatories.

The First Provincia[edit | edit source]

Mission rome 3.png

The islands that lay off the Italian peninsula are natural targets for expanding Rome's influence and depriving Punic and Greek colonists of the rich spoils these rugged lands hold.

The First Provincia mission tree directs Flag of Rome Rome to expand into the nearby Mediterranean islands of Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily, historically their first conquests outside of Italia proper after the First Punic War. Beginning with claims to all the target regions, there is one branch for conquering and establishing colonies on each island, with addition tasks to colonize the uncontrolled coasts of Corsica, deal with the Nuragic tribes of Flag of Sardinia Sardinia, either by granting autonomy in the form of tribal vassal or ruthlessly suppressing the rebellion, and securing the rich and important grain production of Sicily, finishing with a choice between exploiting the provinces for their resources or seeking to more closely integrate the islands into the Roman sphere. Additional optional tasks might also allow Flag of Rome Rome to reach out to remaining Siculian tribes of Sicily and offer protection or liberation in the name of Italic solidarity.

Cisalpine Gaul[edit | edit source]

Mission rome 1.png

The Italic and Gallic tribes to the north hold sway over the fertile Padus valley and block our land access to the north. We must sweep aside these pitiful tribes and secure the rich lands of Cisalpine Gaul for Rome.

After solidifying Flag of Rome Roman rule over Italia, the Cisalpine Gaul mission tree focuses on the conquest and colonization of the Gallic and Italic tribes further to the north, in the eponymous region of Cisalpine Gaul. The tasks of the main branch alternate between conquering various provinces in the area and inviting Roman settlers into the region, providing a further influx of Roman pops to develop and stabilize the region alongside the usual Roman colonies, and as with many of the other Roman mission trees the final task gives a choice between exploiting the area for its resources or purusing a more long term strategy of development and assimilation. There are also optional tasks to conduct diplomatic negotiations with some of the neighbouring tribes in the area, which can lead to making Alliance.png allies and Vassalized.png subjects of friendly tribes in the area.

Punic Rivals[edit | edit source]

Mission rome 2.png

Long has the Punic city of Carthage dominated trade in the western Mediterranean, extending their domains across fertile Africa, the populous islands of the Internal Sea, the rich lands of Hispania, and even, it is said, beyond the Pillars of Hercules. If we are to become the foremost power in the area, a reckoning with Carthage is inevitable - they will not readily forgo the trappings of their vast empire.

Once Flag of Rome Rome has cemented its status as a major power in the region, the Punic Rivals mission tree directs Flag of Rome Rome towards directly challenging the might of Flag of Carthage Carthage, taking its colonies and finally breaking its power for good one way or another reflecting the historical actions and campaigns of the Second and Third Punic Wars. The first part of the mission tree focuses on weakening Flag of Carthage Carthage by stripping it of its outlying colonies, alongside some optional tasks to challenge to might of the Flag of Carthage Carthaginian navy and make diplomatic dealings with Hispanic tribes and some of the many Carthaginian subject states. Once Flag of Carthage Carthage has been cut down to size, Flag of Rome Rome can show its superiority by demanding tribute from the weakened state and then end the threat of Flag of Carthage Carthage once and for all, by either subjection or conquest.

Main branch[edit | edit source]

The main branch forms the main body of the mission tree, containing all the tasks required to complete the mission tree, and begins with tasks to strip Flag of Carthage Carthage of first its Hispanic possessions and then all of its colonies outside of Africa, giving a number of temporary bonuses for weakening the city. Once Flag of Rome Rome has become sufficiently larger than Flag of Carthage Carthage, it can demand that Flag of Carthage Carthage itself become a tributary, though they are unlikely to keep to this humiliation for long; Flag of Rome Rome can then proceed to either repair relations with Flag of Carthage Carthage and formalize its status as a proper allied Vassalized.png client state, or decide that Flag of Carthage Carthage is too dangerous to be left even as a subject and annex the city as another Roman province.

Hispanian Ambitions[edit | edit source]

Mission rome 3.png

The great rolling hills of the Iberian peninsula verily seem to have no end, but we know that there is a sea surrounding this place, and with a sea there is a goal. All of Hispania must be brought into the fold, from the Pillars of Hercules, to the mountains of Pyrene, if we are to ensure the Mediterranean trade routes and protect our western borders from invasion.

The Hispanian Ambitions mission tree is available to Flag of Rome Rome once it has either broken Flag of Carthage Carthaginian power through the preceding Punic Rivals mission tree or established its own presence on the Hispanic mainland, and tasks it with the conquest or subjugation of the entire peninsula. The various tasks of the tree direct Flag of Rome Rome towards conquering first the Greek and Punic-colonized east coast, then moving further west and inland to secure control over the Pillars of Hercules and the coasts beyond as well as defeating the many Celtiberian tribes of central Hispania. Optional tasks include extending Roman rule over the hardy Lusitanians and Cantabrians as well as diplomatic tasks to intervene in the affairs of the Iberians and gain Vassalized.png subjects and Alliance.png allies.
