Pergamon is a formable and releasable nation in western Asia, representing the wealthy Attalid kingdom that would historically develop into one of the greatest cultural centers of the Hellenistic world. It can be formed by the Antigonid Kingdom during its collapse in the The Antigonid Cause Wavers event through a special event option, and can also be released as an outcome of the during Antigonid collapse and its aftermath as part of The Antigonid Cause Wavers event chain (typically as a Thracian satrapy) if it was not formed. If it was not released by event, Pergamon can also be released through certain mission tasks in the Egyptian and Thracian mission trees if the Heirs of Alexander DLC is enabled.
Historically, the kingdom of Pergamon arose from the collapse of Lysimachid Thrace in 281 BC and established itself as a local power after defeating Gallic and Seleukid attempts to establish control over the region. Allying with Rome as it became involved in the affairs of the east against Macedon and the Seleukid Empire, Pergamon would be rewarded with control over much of western Anatolia at its height and invested heavily in building a great library and acropolis to rival those of Alexandria and Athens. The kingdom was eventually bequeathed to Rome in 133 BC after the death of its last, heirless king and organized as the province of Asia, after which the city of Pergamon would continue to be one of the main centers of the region well into the imperial era.
Pergamon can be formed by the Antigonid Kingdom as a special player-only option to the The Antigonid Cause Wavers collapse event if the Antigonid Kingdom controls the city of Pergamon. Unlike with all other formable nations, forming Pergamon will recreate the Antigonid Kingdom as a new country with almost all of the country's old territory (as well as ruler, allies, armies, treasury, etc.) - in effect, it is essentially the Antigonid Kingdom releasing Pergamon and the player swapping over to play as Pergamon. Forming Pergamon this way will also make it into a satrapy of Thrace, unless the Antigonid Kingdom earlier decided to cede territory to Thrace in return for a peace deal.

The Antigonid Cause Wavers
With his passing, the state that Antigonos built out of his Phrygian satrapy stands, for the first time, without its founder. His meteoric rise once attracted the envy and admiration of a generation, but the arrayed enmity of the other Diadochi tested the old general to the limit.
Loyalty among our Asian subjects and their Macedonian administrators is wavering, and myriad provinces are already welcoming our enemies, driving the others dangerously close to defecting from our authority. We must decide whether to attempt to keep hold of what remains of Antigonos' eastern core together, or risk the fate of our dynasty on connections with the Greeks in the west.

The current country gets claims on all territories that meet the following conditions:[1]
Are in the regions of Greece, Thrace, Macedonia, Syria, Asia, Cilicia, Phrygia, Assyria, Persis, Palestine, Mesopotamia, Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt, and Cappadocia Taurica
Are not owned by the current country or one of their subjects
Formation requirements for Pergamon. Fully coloured territories must be owned when the event fires, while hatched territories will be retained after formation if originally controlled by the Antigonid Kingdom or Aeolia (if a subject).
Pergamon can also be released by the Antigonid Kingdom under certain conditions during its collapse in the The Antigonid Cause Wavers event chain. In the uncommon event that Antigonid Kingdom owns Pergamon but not Sardis when the event fires, Pergamon will be released from the Antigonid Kingdom's territories in the central provinces of Asia as a satrapy of Thrace during their partition of the former Antigonid territories, taking the place of Sardis as Thrace's main satrapy in Asia. Note that if released through this event, Pergamon will have Macedonian primary culture (like the other satrapies) instead of Aeolian, will be ruled by the satrap Phoinix rather than the Attalid dynasty, and will not get its unique Attalid heritage.

The Antigonid Cause Wavers
The below description is one of several available for this event.
Antigonos' death has, combined with recent setbacks, fractured the stability of the cyclops' kingdom. His heir and co-king Demetrios, unable to hold together the expiring loyalties of his subjects, has abandoned much of the kingdom to the claims of the other Diadochi while he retreats to lick his wounds among Greek friends.
In the chaos, Asian provincial notaries have given us their loyalty - and thus dominion over Antigonos' original holdings in Phrygia granted by Alexander the Great - extending our influence across the Bosporos into Bithynia et Paphlagonia and beyond.

Release requirements for Pergamon from the Thracian partition of the Antigonid Kingdom. Pergamon will be released if the Antigonid Kingdom owns all fully coloured grey territories and none of the red territories when the event fires. All fully coloured and striped territories will usually be released as part of Pergamon, while the checkered territories may also be released if controlled by Thrace or the Antigonid Kingdom.
A few months after the partition, if Thrace or one of its subjects own the city of Pergamon (which will usually happen), Thrace will get an event for Attalid Defection, with the Attalid dynasty arriving in the country and offering their services as a local governor in the area. If Thrace accepts (which the AI will always do), Pergamon will be released as a satrapy from the city of Pergamon and the surrounding territories. If the city of Pergamon is already owned by one of Thrace's subjects - which will usually occur if Pergamon was released during the initial partition event as Thrace's main satrapy in Asia - then that subject will be annexed into the newly released Pergamon. Under those circumstances, Pergamon can be larger and include more of the central provinces of Asia, as well as ensuring that Thrace does not have two separate Pergamon satrapies.

Release requirements for Pergamon through the Attalid Defection event for Thrace. All coloured territories will be released as part of Pergamon if owned by Thrace; note that Pergamon will also annex any of Thrace's subjects that own one of the fully coloured territories.
If the city of Pergamon is instead still owned by the Antigonid Kingdom when the Attalid Defection event fires because Thrace was not involved in the partition, Pergamon will be released from all of the Antigonid Kingdom's territories in the region of Asia as an independent kingdom under the rule of the Attalid dynasty. This typically occurs if Thrace was destroyed before the Antigonid Cause Wavers event fired, was allied to the Antigonid Kingdom at that point in time, or made a peace deal in the Antigonid Vulnerabilities event to stay out of the war in return for territory along their shared border.
