The Peloponnesian League is a special formable nation for Sparta if the Magna Graecia DLC is enabled, representing a restoration of the league it led that included most of the cities of Peloponnese throughout much of the classical period, expanding to include Thebes and the rest of Boeotia for a brief time at the height of the league. The original league was founded in the 6th century BC to formalize Sparta's hegemony over the other cities of the Peloponnese, Sparta and its allies would be recognized as the foremost military power in Greece and briefly became the hegemon of the Greek city-states after the defeat of Athens and its Delian League in the Peloponnesian Wars until its power was broken by Thebes in the Boeotian War, and the much reduced league was disbanded after Macedon's subjugation of the Greek-city states under the League of Corinth in 338 BC.
A resurgent Sparta can reform the league as part of its unique national mission trees if it has managed to restore its control over most of the Peloponnese and restored the main cities of the pennisula to greatness. Most of the area is divided between the many city states that have thrown off the Macedonian yoke in the wake of Alexander's death and the ensuing wars, providing an opening for Sparta to re-establish its hegemony in the region, though the Arcadian league that unites most of the cities to Sparta's north and west against it may prove a difficult obstacle to expansion while the kingdoms of Macedon and the Antigonids may soon seek to expand their influence into the area from their holdings in central Greece, should the Wars of the Diadochi ever end. If Sparta can beat the odds and restore its dominion over the Peloponnese to re-establish its old league, it will be well position to defeat the Macedonian usurpers and restore Spartan hegemony over the Greek world.
- Main article: The Second Peloponnesian League
The Peloponnesian League is formed as a reward for completing the The Second Peloponnesian League Spartan unique national mission (requiring the Magna Graecia DLC), one of the final mission trees available after completing the earlier trees to restore Spartan dominion over the pennisula. All of the tasks in the mission tree involve pacifying and developing conquered regions rather than gaining control over new territories, though its prerequisites require conquering most of the Peloponnese first.
Forming the Peloponnesian League will give permanent military and subject-related bonuses, reflecting the imperial nature of the league, but unlike most country formations does not give any modifiers to the capital (largely covered in earlier mission trees and tasks) or free province investments.

The long Spartan campaign to restore the Peloponnesian League has finally ended, as [ROOT.GetCountry.GetRuler.GetName] holds a speech in front of our subjects and allies about the restoration of the Second Peloponnesian League.
As the hegemon of Greeks everywhere, we now look to what threats we might face. It is our duty to protect our homeland and people, even if that means foreign campaigns to quell the barbarians, successor kingdoms, or ambitious Italics invading Magna Graecia.
