Flag of Odrysia Odrysia, or the Odrysian Kingdom, is a local power in Thrace and the main kingdom of the native Thracian tribes. Founded in the early 5th century BC after the collapse of Flag of Achaemenid Empire Achaemenid rule over the region, the Odrysian kingdom quickly rose to prominence and at its height controlled most of Thrace south of the Istros river save for the Greek cities of the coast, but soon fragmented between various claimants and was subjugated by Flag of Macedon Macedon during the periods of Argead expansion, coming under the suzerainty of Lysimachus's kingdom of Flag of Thrace Thrace by 450 AUC after the partition of the Flag of Argead Empire Argead Empire. At the beginning of the game, their position as the southernmost of the Thraco-Dacian kingdoms provides both great opportunity and serious risks; Odrysia is well within striking distance of the rich and civilized cities of the Aegean, ready to be claimed with the Hellenistic kings otherwise distracted by the Wars of the Diadochi, but at the same time the kingdom remains relatively weak and vulnerable should any of the powerful kingdoms turn their attention fully to the north.

Historically, the Odrysians would rebel inconclusively against Lysimachus, largely retaining their independence, and under their king Seuthes III attempted to reform into a Hellenistic-style kingdom from their capital of Seuthopolis, but this failed after the destruction of the city several decades later with their kings largely disappearing into obscurity. After that variously independent or subject to Greek kings who controlled the Thracian coasts such as Flag of Macedon Macedon and the Flag of Seleukid Empire Seleukid Empire, the Thracians were eventually reunited by Flag of Rome Roman client kings from first the Asti and then the Sapaean tribes before being annexed as a Flag of Rome Roman province in 46 AD.


As a country in the Dacian culture group, Odrysia has access to the decision to form Flag of Dacia Dacia.

  • Current country becomes Flag of Dacia Dacia
  • If the country is tribal, adopt the Federated Tribe government form
  • Otherwise, gain Political influence.png 150 political influence
  • Add Tribesmen 8 tribesmen pops. Citizens 4 citizen pops, Freemen 4 freemen pops, and Slaves 4 slave pops to the capital
  • Get claims on all unowned provinces in the regions of Dacia and Moesia
  • Get Province investment 4 free province investments

Odrysian Revolt events[edit]

If the Heirs of Alexander DLC is not enabled, Flag of Thrace Thrace will get an event a few years into the game allowing it to choose how to deal with Flag of Odrysia Odrysia, with choices including declaring war to directly annex it, seizing several neighbouring territories, and forcibly converting it into a client state. If Flag of Thrace Thrace decides to seize neighbouring territories, Odrysia can try to oppose this by rebelling as well.

With the Heirs of Alexander DLC, Odrysia will instead get periodic events to revolt if Flag of Thrace Thrace is distracted in another war, with special opportunities to offer peace and return to status quo if the war is not going well. As long as Odrysia remains a subject of Flag of Thrace Thrace, however, it well continue to get opportunities for these revolts until Flag of Thrace Thrace manages to appease or decisively defeat the Odrysians through the tasks of the unique Flag of Thrace Thracian mission tree The Paper Kingdom.


Odrysia begins as a Vassalized.png tribal vassal of Flag of Thrace Thrace.


Odrysia begins with a Population.png population of 87 spread over Local.png 17 territories. While most are all Getian Zalmoxian, a minority of Macedonian Hellenic pops exist as well.
