Flag of Kios Kios is a small local power located upon the north-western coast of Anatolia, controlling the port city of Kios and the settlement of Myrleia directly to the south. Located on the northern border of the Flag of Antigonid Kingdom Antigonid Kingdom to which it pays tribute, Kios was founded as a Flag of Miletos Milesian colony that eventually came under the rule of the Mithridatic dynasty, formerly the Phrygian satraps of the fallen Flag of Achaemenid Empire Achaemenid Empire. In 450 AUC the dynasty's rule persists in the person of the elderly Mithridates II. Historically, the old Mithridates II would be murdered on the orders of Antigonos himself, after which his son, Mithridates III, alerted to his father's murder by Antigonos's own son Demetrios, would gather a following and flee from Kios to Flag of Paphlagonia Paphlagonia. From his Paphlagonian fortress, Mithridates III would expand his dominion throughout northern Anatolia and found the Kingdom of Flag of Pontus Pontus, then adopting the moniker Mithridates I of Pontus. The Mithridatic dynasty would continue to rule over Pontus and later the Flag of Bosporan Kingdom Bosporan Kingdom, briefly becoming the hegemon of all of Anatolia, until the final ruler of the dynasty was deposed by the Flag of Rome Romans in 44 BCE.

Missions[edit | edit source]

Main article: Greek missions#The Hospitable Sea

As a Propontic culture country, Kios can get access to the unique Euxine Sea Hellenistic cultural mission tree The Hospitable Sea if it becomes independent, directing it to expand its influence and dominate the Euxine Sea region. Like most other Hellenistic group countries, if Kios conquers territory in Greece it can also get the Greek cultural mission tree Pan-Hellenic Government and attempt to unite the Greek city-states into a new Flag of Hellenic League Hellenic League. Note that neither of these missions will be accessible if Mithridates decides to flee to Paphlagonia to form the Flag of Mithridatic Kingdom Mithridatic Kingdom and adopts Paphlagonian (or, eventually, Cappadocian) culture.

Regardless of what path it chooses to take, like all other countries Kios also has access to the generic missions.

Events[edit | edit source]

Main article: Mithridates events

Mithridates in Paphlagonia[edit | edit source]

Upon the death of Mithridates II, Kios will receive an event that provides them the option to either attempt to flee Kios and approach Flag of Paphlagonia Paphlagonia for refuge, or to remain in Kios. Fleeing to Paphlagonia will form a new tag, the Flag of Mithridatic Kingdom Mithridatic Kingdom, regardless of whether or not the Paphlagonians accept the Mithridatic refuge. The Mithridatic Kingdom will establish itself in the northern territories of Paphlagonia. If the Paphlagonians accept, the two kingdoms will coexist at peace with a significant boost to relations. If they decline, the Mithridatic Kingdom will be established regardless, and a state of war will commence between the two kingdoms. In either case, Kios will be abandoned and released as a subject of the Antigonids.

If the decision is made to remain, the Mithridatic Kingdom will not be formed and Mithridates III will remain to rule the city. Kios will stop being a tributary of the Flag of Antigonid Kingdom Antigonid Kingdom, and the Antigonids will acquire a claim upon Kios until the end of the game.

The events will not occur if Mithridates III Mithridatid is dead, a prisoner, or within the Antigonid court.

Pontic Ambition[edit | edit source]

Ten to twenty years following the establishment of the Mithridatic Kingdom, if Mithridates is alive, not imprisoned, and not in the Antigonid court, they will receive an event that gives them the option to set their sights on the tribal nation of Flag of Pontus Pontus (if it exists and borders Mithridates). If they decide to pursue, Pontus will receive the option to submit to Mithridates. If they decline, the Mithridatic Kingdom will declare war upon Pontus with the conquest wargoal. If they accept, the Mithridatic Kingdom will peacefully annex Pontus and form the Kingdom of Pontus under a new flag.

Otherwise, the Mithridatic Kingdom can decide not to pursue Pontic ambitions at the time, and no effect will occur.

Decisions[edit | edit source]

As a Hellenistic culture group country and a monarchy, Kios has access to the decision to form the Flag of Hellenistic Empire Hellenistic Empire.

Reunite Alexander's Empire

For too long parasites and scavengers have made a feast of the Great Empire that Alexander spent a lifetime building. It is time we do away with all claimants, usurpers and delusional provincial strongmen. There can be only one authority within the empire of Alexander the Great, one upholder of the great Hellenistic legacy that this great man founded.

That one power could not possibly come from any dynasty but our own. Only a family that respects the Argead traditions can legitimately claim its legacy.

Diplomacy[edit | edit source]

Kios begins as a Vassalized.pngtributary of the Flag of Antigonid Kingdom Antigonid Kingdom at the start of the game. This status will end after the death of their initial ruler Mithridates II. If Mithridates III abandons Kios, the new Kios tag will remain a tributary of the Antigonids.

Pantheon[edit | edit source]

Kios starts as a Zoroastrian nation with a syncretic pantheon that includes two Hellenic deities, one Zoroastrian deity, and one Zalmoxian deity.

  • War: Poseidon (Hellenic)
  • Economy: Bendis (Zalmoxian)
  • Culture: Leto (Hellenic)
  • Fertility: Anahita (Zoroastrian)

Population[edit | edit source]

Kios begins with a Population.pngpopulation of 25 pops at the beginning of the game divided across Local.png 2 territories, with the majority residing in Kios.
