Istros is a local power on the eastern coast of Thrace, a former Milesian colony that has come under the suzerainty of the Diadochi kingdom of Thrace along with the rest of the western Pontic coast. The oldest Greek colony in the region, dating back to the 7th century BC, the city was an early center of trade for the Thracian tribes but eventually superseded by newer cities such of Apollonia Pontica and Mesembria. Coming under Roman rule in the 1st century AD after the Getae were decisively defeated, the city went into a slow decline as its port silted up, and was eventually destroyed by barbarian invasions at the end of the classical era.

Should it manage free itself from Thracian suzerainty, Istros has access to the unique Euxine Sea Hellenistic cultural mission tree The Hospitable Sea due to its Bosporan culture, directing it to expand its influence and dominate the Euxine Sea region. Like most other Hellenistic group countries, if Istros conquers territory in Greece it can also get the Greek cultural mission tree Pan-Hellenic Government and attempt to unite the Greek city-states into a new Hellenic League.
Like all other countries, Istros also has access to the generic missions at all times.
As Istros has Hellenistic primary culture, it can take the decision to reunite Alexander the Great's empire and form the Hellenistic Empire if it controls the required territories. This, however, will require Istros to change its government type to a monarchy.

Pontic revolt events
If the Heirs of Alexander DLC is enabled, the other Diadochi will get events to sponsor revolts among Thrace's feudatory subjects on the coast of the Pontic sea if they are at war. Up to three of the city states may be contacted, and if they accept they will band together to declare a war of independence against Thrace, reflecting the historical revolt of the Pontic Pentapolis during the early part of Lysimachus's reign. This can happen up to once every 7 years, unless the cities are appeased or annexed through Thrace's unique A New Philhellenic Policy mission tree.
Istros begins as a feudatory of Thrace.
