Cappadocia is a Local Power controlling the southern half of the eponymous Cappadocian region as a satrapy of the
Antigonid Kingdom, one of the Hellenistic states in the region arising from the collapse of the
Argead Empire. Stubbornly loyal to the
Achaemenid Empire, the region would only be properly pacified by the Macedonians after the death of Alexander, becoming the satrapy of the Argead loyalist Eumenes until his defeat and execution at the hands of Antigonos. By the beginning of the game, the south of the Cappadocian satrapy is under the control of the
Antigonid loyalist Amyntas, while the more remote north has broken off to become
Pontus. Historically, the Macedonian satraps would be overthrown shortly after the start of the game by the Ariathrid dynasty, restoring Iranian rule to the region under
Seleukid suzerainty and then ruling as an independent kingdom after their decline for some time afterwards. Cappadocian independence would be lost by the machinations of
Pontus during the Mithridatic Wars, becoming a
Roman client and eventually province afterwards.
In 450 AUC, Cappadocia finds itself in a somewhat difficult position - while it may soon be able to break off of the Antigonid Kingdom so long as the wars of the Diadochi resume, Cappadocia will still likely find itself nestled between the
Antigonid and
Seleukid empires, both of whom will likely to see Cappadocia is an appropriate target for conquest, with
Armenia either an overlord too weak to realistically protect Cappadocia or yet another potential rival that it will have to keep an eye on. Only if Cappadocia can manage to unite the other Anatolian kingdoms does it have any hope of destroying the Greek usurpers and restoring Iranian rule to Asia and beyond.

Missions[edit]
Like all other countries, Cappadocia has access to the generic missions at all times, and those are the only missions that it can take at the start.
However, if Cappadocia keeps its Macedonian culture and makes conquests to the west back to the Greek homeland, Cappadocia can also get access to two of the Greek cultural missions. Like most other Hellenistic group countries, if Cappadocia makes conquests in the Asian, Bithynian, or Thracian region it will get access to the Euxine Sea Hellenistic cultural mission tree The Hospitable Sea, directing Cappadocia to expand its influence and dominate the Euxine Sea region, while conquering territory in Greece will make available the Greek cultural mission tree Pan-Hellenic Government, directing Cappadocia to unite the Greek city-states into a new Hellenic League.
Events[edit]

Not long into the game, the Ariarathid heir will appraoch the ruler of Armenia to lead an expedition to overthrow the Macedonian satrap and reclaim the throne of
Cappadocia. If this ultimatum is accepted, Ariarathes II will be restored to his ancestral throne and Cappadocia will become Cappadocian Zoroastrian, as well as breaking away from its
Antigonid overlord. If the
Antigonids are otherwise distracted they will let Cappadocia go without a fight and Cappadocia will become a
tributary of
Armenia, though if they are not they will likely go to war to suppress this rebellion.
Ariarathes can also be executed to keep the Macedonian Hellenic ruling class in place, though this will significantly anger all Cappadocian culture characters.
Decisions[edit]
As a country with Macedonian primary culture, Cappadocia can form Macedon if it conquers the area and destroys the existing Antipatrid kingdom. As a Hellenistic culture group monarchy, Cappadocia also has access to the decision to form the
Argead Empire.
Form Macedon
The Barons of Macedon have always favored the strong and able over the weak and feeble. Let us seize the kingdom away from those that are leading it to ruin and create a new stronger state for the Macedonians to serve.

If Cappadocia decides to return to native rule, it will instead have access to the decision to form 20px Persia if it integrates Persian culture.
Form Persia
The days of Cyrus and Darius are long gone, but the Persian people remember the great empires built by their own. It is time to throw off the shackles of our foreign oppressors, and unite our people once again!

Population[edit]
Cappadocia has a population of 511 across its
54 territories at the beginning of the game. The vast majority of the population is Cappadocian, with most of the rest coming from Lycaonian areas in the southwest. The population is mostly Cybelene, though with a significant Zoroastrian minority, especially across the north. There is only a single Macedonian Hellenic pop in the entire country, though as Cappadocian is integrated the Cappadocia should generally not have significant cultural unrest issues, but unless the country converts it will begin with almost no religious unity and so extremely low
omen power.
