Bactria is a Local Power controlling much of Bactriana and Sogdiana as a satrapy of the Seleukid Empire, one of the Hellenistic states in the east arising from the collapse of the Flag of Argead Empire Argead Empire. With 99 territories and 1016 pops, it is strongest of the three eastern satrapies of the Flag of Seleukid Empire Seleukid Empire and one of the most powerful states in the region despite its subject status and largely Bactrian and Sogdian populace, able to project its power in the region much more effectively than the neighbouring Flag of Seleukid Empire Seleukid and Flag of Maurya Mauryan Empires despite their nominally larger size. Historically, the satraps of Bactria would declare independence to form the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom and conquer large parts of Ariana and northern India as the Indo-Greeks to form a kingdom famed for its sophistication and cultural syncretism between east and west, before fracturing and falling to the invasions of the Sakas and 20px Yuezhi, though its cultural and religious legacy would persist for many more centuries.

Missions[edit]

Like all other countries, Bactria also has access to the generic missions at all times, and those are the only missions that it can take at the start.

However, if Bactria keeps its Macedonian culture and makes conquests to the west back to the Greek homeland, Bactria can also get access to two of the Greek cultural missions. Like most other Hellenistic group countries, if Bactria makes conquests in the Asian, Bithynian, or Thracian region it will get access to the Euxine Sea Hellenistic cultural mission tree The Hospitable Sea, directing Bactria to expand its influence and dominate the Euxine Sea region, while conquering territory in Greece will make available the Greek cultural mission tree Pan-Hellenic Government, directing Bactria to unite the Greek city-states into a new Flag of Hellenic League Hellenic League.

Events[edit]

Bactria has a few unique events centering around the interaction of the Hellenic colonists and the Bactrian natives, including a special event that can trigger at the beginning of the game that allows Bactria to switch from Macedonian to Bactrian culture. Additionally, there are a couple of events by which Diodotus, historical founder of the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, can appear and become the ruler. The Bactrian events also include the DHE covering the unification of the eastern Scythian tribes and the rise of the Flag of Dahae Dahae just to the west.

Decisions[edit]

As one of the easternmost Hellenistic states, Bactria can take the decision to move their centre of power to Northern India and embrace greater cultural syncretism if they make conquests in the region, representing the historical creation of the Indo-Greek kingdoms.

As well, as a country with Macedonian primary culture, Bactria can form Flag of Macedon Macedon if it makes its way all the way to the west to conquer the area and destroy the existing Antipatrid kingdom. As a Hellenistic culture group monarchy, Bactria also has access to the decision to form the Flag of Argead Empire Argead Empire.

Reunite Alexander's Empire

For too long parasites and scavengers have made a feast of the Great Empire that Alexander spent a lifetime building. It is time we do away with all claimants, usurpers and delusional provincial strongmen. There can be only one authority within the empire of Alexander the Great, one upholder of the great Hellenistic legacy that this great man founded.

That one power could not possibly come from any dynasty but our own. Only a family that respects the Argead traditions can legitimately claim its legacy.

Combined with Bactria's Hellenistic heritage (which gives Unintegrated culture group happiness +6% Unintegrated Culture Group Happiness as one of its modifiers), if Bactria manages to take both of these decisions it can accumulate one of the highest Unintegrated culture group happiness unintegrated culture group happiness modifiers in the game, making dealing with foreign conquests much easier.

Population[edit]

Bactria has a Population.png population of 1016 at the beginning of the game. Culturally, the population is mostly of the Bactrian culture group - predominantly Bactrians and Sogdians - with a significant Macedonian minority concentrated in the province of Oxiana and the cities of Alexandreia Margiana and Alexandreia Eschate. The country is religiously divided more evenly, with Zoroastrianism dominant in Bactriana (with a significant Hellenic minority) while Sogdiana has some Ritualistic and Heptadic minorities in the outlying areas. While Bactria does have a large proportion of pops in a different culture group, their starting integrated cultures and cultural privileges mean that most of their core will generally be stable even if they do not choose to fully embrace Bactrian culture, with its Hellenistic heritage doing some compensation for the rest. The large proportion of wrong religion pops and the spread of religions they follow means that it will be more difficult to get higher Omen.png and keep them all fully satisfied with pantheon deities, however.

Bactria has a small proportion of nobles for a civilized country, but the other population types show a roughly even split between the four other types:
